About Us
Newborn Journey
Newborn Theatre is a not-for-profit Toronto-based theatre company that is aimed at funding and facilitating full-scale and workshop theatre productions written by young playwrights.
Our goal is to start every season off with The Odds and Ends Festival: A Festival of Shorts by Young Playwrights. The festival features the works of up to twenty young artists. The festival will be fully staffed by individuals who are under thirty years old. The opportunity for teenage and adult dramatists to learn from practice outside of an educational institution and at a professional level is nearly non-existent. Newborn Theatre’s mission is to provide young artist, whether they have worked in the theatre or not, with the opportunity for free experimentation, for risk-taking and for new discoveries in the theatre according to their own artistic instincts.

Newborn Family
Newborn Theatre is staffed entirely with unpaid volunteers.
Rachel Ganz--Artistic Director
From an early age, Rachel studied theatre at The Children’s Theatre Project in Toronto. She was later admitted into the Syracuse University drama department wherein she studied acting, directing and stage management. This years she has won playwriting awards for her original works The Long Run and Rhyme, Reason or Otherwise. Rachel looks forward to affording a diverse network of young artists the opportunity to work in and learn from professional theatre production.
Jesse Ganz--Co-Managing Director
Jesse has a background in comedic acting and improvisation. He studied the dramatic arts throughout highschool and continued to pursue an education in theatrical arts at Dalhousie University. He looks forward to working with new artists and playwrights during Newborn Theatre’s upcoming seasons.
Nicole Siron--Co-Managing Director
Nicole graduated from the University of Toronto in 2010 with her Honours B.S.c in psychology. She has since been pursuing a career in social work and child advocacy. Her current work with autistic children has led her to participate in daily theatrical role playing exercises including, amongst many other favourites, light-saver fighting. She is exciting to put her organizational and problem-solving skills to use as she expands her love for imaginative theatrics at Newborn Theatre.
Erica Mulvihill--Visual Arts Director
Erica is a professional designer and trained illustrator. She completed her artistic training at OCA and currently directs plush product development at GANZ where she has spearheaded a number of internationally successful product lines. Erica is excited to ilustrate and design Newborn Theatre’s visual communications.
Brigid Burke--Dramaturg
Brigid started her training in theatre over 15 years ago at the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama. After moving from Ottawa to Toronto she continued to take classes at The Sharper Image Studio and participating in competitions in speech, drama and improvisation. She has completed the Trinity College London curriculum in Drama and Speech Performance, passing the final Grade 8 examination with distinction. After a lengthy hiatus to undertake university studies, Brigid looks forward to diving back into stage production in collaboration with Newborn Theatre.
